Bernard and I have been hanging out at Tanjong Pagar / Duxton hill way too much lately! With time to spare on a lazy Sunday afternoon, we decided to pop over to Department of Caffeine for some coffee, tea and cakes.
If you know where Littered with Books is at, D.O.C is just a few doors down! We spent a good thirty minutes prancing around in this charming and spacious two-storey shophouse-turned-bookshop before we got seats at the cafe.
We ordered a mocha, pot of tea and their honey & lavender tea cake which was utterly irresistible. It not only look pretty with the lavender floral bits on the glaze but it also tasted SO GOOD. You could literally smell the fragrance even before placing your fork into it. I'm a huge fan of tea cakes (especially lavender ones) and this was really just superb.
It's a pity we didn't try the buttermilk waffles because we were going for dinner after but I'd definitely be coming back for it along with more tea cakes!!

Ikkousha Hakata Ramen has my favourite tonkotsu ramen which gives me another reason to always be at Tanjong Pagar... there was a period where it has always been between Ikkousha or Korean bbq for dinner and it will usually be ramen because it's more value for money since there is only two of us!
I always order the same thing (also indicating NO SPRING ONION THX on the paper because the generous amount of it makes me sick). The tonkotsu ramen is very chewy and smooth while their katsu is very tender and juicy. The soup base has a creamy consistency which makes it thick and flavourful! We will also usually order the common accompaniment to ramen - gyoza. It's pretty decent, although we've tried better ones. FREE FLOW OF BOILED EGGS AND TEA TOO!
