Korea 2016 Day 1

Korea in April, finally doing an update of my trip after 3 months!! How the trip started was a total rush all thanks to Cathay. Flight time was 8:15 pm but they called me at 3 pm to say we will be on the 6 pm flight instead because our original flight will be delayed (which means we'll miss our transit flight). We rushed like mad and made it to the airport by 5 pm!

Thanks loveliest friends for sending us off x

The flight drama didn't stop there. Our transit flight got delayed and my stopover from 50 minutes became close to 3 hours ugh!

Nonetheless, we made it to Korea safe (and that's what's most important)!

Arrived super early morning: 7 am! Took the airport bus to our Airbnb conveniently located at Sinseoldong. We were dead tired so we took a nap first before heading out to lunch at Gwanjang market!

One of the oldest traditional market in Seoul, Gwangjang market is popular for their street food. It was pretty crowded when we went so we just queued for the popular pancake, got my fishcake fix and bought the super delicious strawberry-ade!

Off we went to sightsee, the weather was literally perfect :>

First stop: Gyeongbokgung Palace! The main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. Such a pity that it was closed when we were there but the exterior itself looks amazing.

Walked towards our second stop: Hanok Bukchon Village! My first impression of the place while reading it up online was that it was literally a village with all these traditional Hanok houses but I kept walking and all I found was main roads...

Until I walked into some random small ally and I found the houses!! Tip: follow random tour guides you see, you'll end up at one of the best and most picturesque spots HAHA

(my favourite barley tea, drank it everyday without fail)

Some of the houses also transformed to become galleries..

As the Hanok Village is in Samcheongdong, we had to stroll through their boutiques and artisan cafes! It was a super long walk towards that area but the view was nice:

Super love the vibes of this area! We had such a good time looking at the pretty cafes and shops.. and then we got hungry. Searched online and a super famous "ramen" place came up and we so happened to walk pass it!

Mukshidonna Tteokbokki!!!! This is how it looks like from the outside (taken from Google) ^

I'm not even exaggerating, it was one of my favourite and cheapest meals in Korea. Every bite we took had us muttering "omg this is so good, this is damm shiok". It's served army stew style and you basically just pick out the ingredients you want (they're really generous with the serving). By default, tteokbokki is included in the pot. It's like comfort food!! So good!
