Valentines Day 2014

Valentines Day this year was slightly bitter sweet. It was bitter because we chose the wrong dining location but sweet because I spent it with the best boyfriend in the worldddd (CRAY CRAY 4TH V DAY TGT!!!)

We started our day by having lunch at House @ Dempsey. It is a whimsical dining space and touted as one of Asia's best dining restaurants in 2012 by Asia Tatler Dining so of course we just had to go down to see if it matched up to it's acclaim.

House is a casual cosy cafe with a slight fine dining touch. It is the maiden concept of the Spa-Esprit Group (same people behind Skinny Pizza as well as Tiong Bahru Bakery / I didn't know until seeing the menu). I loved the homely and vintage ambience upon entering, the interior was bright and larger that I expected it to be. The menu introduces a selection of brunch items, a variety of Skinny Pizzas and many other delightful creations causing us to be spoilt for choices.

The best dish of the day - Old fashioned American Sliders!! The truffle and sweet potato fries definitely left a remarkable impression on our tastebuds. We chose bleu cheese and bacon for our burger toppings and it was perfect! The beef patties and bacon were grilled the way we liked it and the melted cheese and pillowy buns complimented the entire dish extremely well.

Lamp Rump with Spiced Cous Cous - Pan seared roast lamb rump flanked by Merguez sausage packed with a harissa kick. sounds yummy right? BUT IT TASTED LIKE CRAP <inserts the angriest face>

so here's the annoying part - we waited 30 minutes for our American Sliders and when it arrived, they got the toppings wrong so we had to wait for a replacement. After another 15 minutes, the manager came over to tell us that the kitchen LEFT OUT OUR LAMP RUMP and we had wait for another 10-15 minutes. SO YUP WE WAITED AN HOUR FOR OUR LAMP RUMP TO ARRIVE AND IT TASTED LIKE $&*%$) # and you know I wanted to order the Black pepper linguine but since I can just find it at any Skinny Pizza I decided to just stick with the lamp rump and it turned out to be a total disappointment… ok i'm starting to sound like i'm ranting but URGH!

our lunch ended at 3 pm and there was a vintage tea party buffet going on - how cute!!! I will definitely come back for this adorable tea party.. I mean how nice would it be spending a lazy afternoon nibbling on a selection of pretty cakes, tarts, pastries, delicious sandwiches and breads, sipping tea while chatting with friends all in a beautiful surrounding of lovely bright flowers and elegant vintage furniture… omg total tai tai life…

ok so we chilled around in the afternoon and decided to head to Great World City for a movie and we had SKINNY PIZZA for dinner because I couldn't get over my stupid black pepper linguine cravings haha! of course the lovely boyf agreed to take me :-)

The black pepper prawn and linguine was topped off with fish roe and caviar. I really like it because the prawns are succulent and the black pepper pasta base has been stir-fried with chunks of prawns, so yumz!! We ordered the 3 for $18 sides and they had no more sweet potato fries so we had to settle with some random Harissa prawns and 1/4 metre beef sausage. Of course only the truffle fries was good out of all three… A MUST TRY IS THE RIVERSIDE RASPERRY JULEP MOCKTAIL!!! So tasty and refreshing!

well thank you Bernard for a lovely day, I wouldn't have it any other way.
